Well, unfortunately, no. It has been the most ridiculous and busy two years to date. I thought coming back from France was busy, but....
Since last I blogged, we have moved twice. The current place is a bit of a project, so we are taking our time and getting sorted. The studio is not yet up and running, but I can't wait for my looms to be set up again. It has been a while! I don't know if there will be space for all four, but I shall have a good try. The world has changed yet again, and not for the better. As I try not to be political here, I shall keep my word, but goodness me - it's hard. Back to fluff. I barely got unpacked in the last house before we were back on the market, so it really has been a long time since I was comfortable in my space. I shall get back to producing one off pieces soon, but in the meantime, will blog progress, in my usual on the ball manner. Hope you have stayed safe and well during the lockdowns and Covid era, and with it becoming prevalent again, keep doing what you were doing to stay as safe as you can. Love and light Michelle Well, we live in strange times don’t we? Who on earth could have predicted such changes in the way we live? But not just our country. All over the world! I don’t know about you, but I’ve had good days and bad days. Some of the good days have been excellent; when I thought about the impact this is having on the environment; when I thought about what I’m managing to achieve and when I’ve just enjoyed being home. But some of the bad days have rolled into one another to create a poor week. Those times have been difficult and tiring. I think there has been grief at the loss of liberty and losing anything to be excited about in the near future. But, thankfully, because we’re all together in the house as a family, I’ve had people to bounce thoughts off and in the main bounced back fairly quickly.
However, one stellar side effect, has been the amount of weaving I’ve done. The sun has been out and I’ve been outside or in the studio beavering away at creating cloth. Mostly scarves and shawls - my absolute favourite thing - but all unique designs in mostly handspun yarn. Just yummy. I have also made my own logo, which is being used across social media and my images, plus is being printed onto cloth tags as we speak. All part of a branding exercise that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed doing. I’m hoping to get the products on here fairly soon! Watch this space, as they say. One thing I’m not doing is rushing. I’ve realised just how much I chase around when there really is no need to. And by going out all the time, as I normally would, I’m missing out on the gift of time. That’s been revelatory. So, I’ll sort out getting a sales page on here, all in good time. Thank you for reading. I can only hope that your remain safe and well. Sending out loving, kind wishes Love and light Michelle xxx A wonderful customer over the pond has been using her purchase from me, to make a piece of felt art. Denise Witt is at the beginning of her journey into felt art, but has sent me a few piccies of her previous work, and I have to say, she has an eye for creativity. What I love about her work, is how freeform it is. She has done more traditional felt art work, with embroidered pieces as well, but for me, it is about how she sees the world that I find fascinating. Below is the yarn she bought from me. So after buying this yarn (called Halloween Horror), she used some of it in the piece shown below and I have to say - it is wow! Denise calls her piece 'Mardi Gras', which I think suits it beautifully! Until next time, love and light - and a Very Merry Christmas to you all (as it is fast approaching and I don't think I will post again).
Michellexxx Diane Turner has bought some yarn from me. She uses it to such beautiful effect, I thought I’d quickly show you. Her shop on Etsy is called oatmealcookeez. Here are a couple of photographs of her work and this is the yarn she bought from me
This one is photos of the Mackintosh inspired jewellery. My goodness there is some wonderful creativity here. There were so many more, and my original photos are more centred, but try as I might, the bloody blog thing has come out less well! Still....
These entries were unselected. There are lots of pictures to show you, so this post and those that follow will be piccie rich, talky poor.
As the exhibition is close to home, of course it was a must visit. Those involved in producing the work should be very proud of the skill used to create their pieces. Those who put this exhibition together have produced an amazing visual treat. Well done to all involved. I know some couldn’t get there - this is for them and as a record of what it is possible to achieve in our field. Lastly, I really couldn’t take a photie of every last piece, but what you see here is more than just the highlights. And be aware, my photos weren’t taken with a “proper” camera taking lots of time over each, so sorry for the quality. Plus (alert - tradesman making excuses for his poor tools) the way the photos come out here is very hard to curate!! Without further ado, enjoy. It has been a few years since I was able to get to Woolfest. France has some wonderful woolly festivals, but often you are lucky if they are in your area, so I have missed Woolfest (and Wonderwool Wales) a lot. To go this year was a massive treat and reminded me what we had been missing. I also did a stint on the OLG stand, with old friends and new - speaking English is so great!!
So without further ado, here’s some piccies of the day. If you can get along to these festivals, do. Have a budget in mind and stick to it, but other than that, go a little crazy - I have never regretted any purchases 😁. This is woolly goodness at its best! We (being my daughter and I) decided to have a session dyeing recently. We had not done so for quite a while and fancied some unique yarn making material. We used acid dyes that we already had, and set up in the lovely warm weather outside. As a trial, we used a fish pan on a stove, which predominantly worked, but with a gas stove, fleece that touched the sides of the pan were a little sticky, so we won’t use it again on gas!
Anyway, without further ado, here are the results. We were very happy with the results and they gave us something different to spin for about 2 weeks (note to self, dye more often lady!). |
