About Michelle - owner of The Spinning Shed
I am a spinner, weaver and dyer of 16 years. I was truly blessed in my learning, as my tutors were generous in helping me at every stage of my development. During that time, I used ever more complex looms for weaving, culminating in both 8 and 16 shaft dobby looms. However, after realising my passion was being squashed by complexity, I scaled back to simpler looms on which I can be more creative, including my beloved Saori loom.
Art yarn creation became a passion when I realised my experimenting was creating yarns that could not be bought. However, I then had huge amounts of yarn in my stash, so I wove fabrics on the loom to make use of them. This is where Saori techniques were used intuitively to produce unique scarves, shawls and fabric.
As well as being a fibre artist, in 2013 I qualified as a permaculture designer, and found a home in permaculture for all the things I believed in. I pursue living a simpler and sustainable life and create permaculture designs for every part. Permaculture informs decisions I make in being creative and sustainable, thus making my carbon footprint as small as possible!
